Deputy minister says sales of software licenses obsolete
YEKATERINBURG, Jul 11 (PRIME) – Russia should change the approach to software monetization because the sales of licenses will not work in the future, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Vasily Shpak said on Tuesday at a session at the Innoprom exposition.
“The question is not only and simply in the sale of licenses. The sales of software licenses is so last century. Believe me, it won’t work in the future. Not a single reasonable head of a company who builds a long-term strategy will need to buy the licenses,” Shpak said.
The industry needs a service that “can be used and paid for the fact of exploitation, and the solution should be comprehensive.
Developers should approach software as a service that provides, supports, and carries a service function to companies, he added.
